บีคอน วีซี (Beacon VC) บริษัทเงินร่วมลงทุนของธนาคารกสิกรไทย และ ฟูเชีย เวนเจอร์ แคปิทัล (Fuchsia VC) บริษัทเงินร่วมลงทุนภายใต้บริษัท เมืองไทยกรุ๊ปโฮลดิ้ง ร่วมลงทุนในกองทุน Pantera Blockchain Fund ในการดูแลของแพนเทอรา แคปิทัล (Pantera Capital) ซึ่งเป็นกองทุนที่เน้นการลงทุนที่หลากหลายเพื่อเข้าถึงตลาดบล็อกเชนและสินทรัพย์ดิจิทัลได้อย่างครอบคลุม ผ่านการลงทุนในหุ้นของบริษัทด้านบล็อกเชน (venture equity) และการลงทุนในโทเค็นโปรโตคอลในระยะเริ่มต้นของนวัตกรรมระบบการเงินไร้ตัวกลาง (decentralized finance หรือ DeFi) เป็นหลัก

นายธนพงษ์ ณ ระนอง กรรมการผู้จัดการ บริษัท บีคอน เวนเจอร์ แคปิทัล จำกัด (บีคอน วีซี) เปิดเผยว่า การลงทุนครั้งนี้จะทำให้ธนาคารและธุรกิจในเครือของธนาคารกสิกรไทยสามารถสร้างความสัมพันธ์ที่ดีกับบริษัทผู้คิดค้นนวัตกรรมต่าง ๆ และเข้าถึงเทคโนโลยีใหม่ ๆ ทางด้านบล็อกเชนได้อย่างรวดเร็วมากขึ้น ซึ่ง Pantera Capital เป็นผู้นำในอุตสาหกรรมนี้ มีชื่อเสียงที่ดี และมีประสบการณ์ในการลงทุนในบริษัทด้านบล็อกเชนมายาวนาน ทีมงานมีความรู้ความสามารถทั้งทางด้านการลงทุน และด้านการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีบล็อกเชนเป็นอย่างดี อีกทั้งยังได้รับเลือกให้เป็น 1 ใน 3 กองทุนที่มีการลงทุนในบริษัทด้านบล็อกเชนมากที่สุดในโลกจาก CB Insights จากจำนวนการลงทุนตั้งแต่ปี 2560 โดยกองทุน Pantera Blockchain Fund มีเป้าหมายในการระดมทุนมูลค่ารวม 600 ล้านเหรียญสหรัฐ 

การลงทุนใน Pantera Blockchain Fund นับเป็นการลงทุนในกองทุนต่างประเทศ ครั้งที่ 4 ของบีคอน วีซี โดยก่อนหน้านี้ได้ลงทุนในกองทุน 3 แห่ง ได้แก่ 1) Integra Partners กองทุนที่ลงทุนในฟินเทคสตาร์ทอัพของอาเซียน 2) Vertex Ventures กองทุนลงทุนในสตาร์ทอัพที่กำลังขยายตลาดจากสิงคโปร์ และ 3) NYCA กองทุนที่ลงทุนในฟินเทคสตาร์ทอัพทั่วโลกจากสหรัฐอเมริกา นอกจากนี้ บีคอน วีซีได้ลงทุนโดยตรงในสตาร์ทอัพอีกกว่า 14 บริษัท เช่น Aspire Financial Technologies ผู้ให้บริการแพลตฟอร์มการเงินสำหรับเอสเอ็มอี Nium ผู้ให้ให้บริการโอนเงินข้ามประเทศ Grab ผู้ให้บริการเรียกรถและบริการทางการเงินชั้นนำของอาเซียน และ Carro แพลตฟอร์มซื้อขายรถยนต์ออนไลน์ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้

ด้าน นายสาระ ล่ำซำ ประธานเจ้าหน้าที่บริหาร บมจ. เมืองไทยประกันชีวิต และกรรมการ ฟูเชีย เวนเจอร์ แคปิทัล (Fuchsia VC) กล่าวเพิ่มเติมว่า ในช่วงไม่กี่ปีที่ผ่านมาบล็อกเชนได้เข้ามามีบทบาทสำคัญต่อระบบการเงินโลกในหลาย ๆ ด้าน เช่น ตลาดแลกเปลี่ยนเงินตรา การชำระเงิน การกู้ยืม และเริ่มเห็นการนำบล็อกเชนมาใช้ในอุตสาหกรรมประกันภัยมากขึ้น ดังนั้นการร่วมลงทุนกับ Pantera Capital จะทำให้ Fuchsia VC สามารถเข้าถึงเทคโนโลยีและโปรโตคอลใหม่ ๆ ของบล็อกเชน ซึ่งเชื่อว่าจะช่วยให้เราสามารถพัฒนานวัตกรรมในด้านประกันและการดูแลสุขภาพได้รวดเร็วขึ้น นอกจากนี้กองทุนยังจะช่วยเพิ่มความรู้และความเข้าใจในสินทรัพย์บล็อคเชนและสินทรัพย์ดิจิทัลที่หลากหลายและครอบคลุม เพราะกองทุนมีการลงทุนทั้งในรูปแบบตราสารทุน และการลงทุนในรูปแบบโทเค็นโปรโตคอลในระยะเริ่มต้น

Beacon VC and Fuchsia VC Invest in Pantera Capital’s Latest Blockchain Fund

Beacon Venture Capital (Beacon VC), the corporate venture capital arm of KASIKORNBANK PLC. (SET: KBANK), and Fuchsia Venture Capital (Fuchsia VC), the corporate venture capital arm of Muang Thai Group Holding, an affiliate of KASIKORNBANK PLC., invest in Pantera Capital’s latest Blockchain Fund. The new Blockchain Fund is intended to cover the entire spectrum of blockchain assets and the fund will be exposed to digital asset and blockchain markets through the investment primarily in venture equity and early-stage.

Pantera Blockchain Fund is the fourth VC fund investment outside Thailand made by Beacon VC, following Southeast Asia-based fintech fund Integra Partners, Singapore-based growth-stage fund Vertex Ventures, and US-based financial technology fund NYCA Partners. Additionally, Beacon VC has actively made a total of 14 direct investments in startups across Southeast Asia to date, including Southeast Asia’s fast-growing neobank application Aspire Financial Technologies, global cross-border payment company Nium, ride-hailing and financial services unicorn Grab and automotive marketplace unicorn Carro.
